EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX POZNAŃ 2026

A tournament with tradition

The European Grand Prix has a long history within the Othello community. The idea of connecting major European tournaments into one international circuit dates back to the 1980s, when several national federations began building a more structured competitive calendar.

Today, the EGP continues this tradition as a series of high-level tournaments played across Europe. The Poznań event is part of the 2026 calendar, alongside other European host cities.

EGP Poznań 2026: European Othello Grand Prix comes to Poland

On 18–19 July, Poznań will become one of the key locations on the European Othello calendar. The city will host EGP Poznań, a tournament held as part of the European Grand Prix series — one of the most important competitive circuits for Othello players in Europe.

The event will take place at ODK “Orbita”, located at os. Kosmonautów, ul. Włodarska 118ul. Włodarska 118 in Poznań.

For players, this is an opportunity to compete in a strong international field. For the Polish Othello community, it is a significant moment: hosting an EGP event in Poland strengthens the country’s position on the European tournament map and creates a valuable meeting point for players, organizers and fans of the game.

The tournament will be played over two days and, assuming 12 or more players, the qualification stage will follow an unmodified Swiss system: players are paired with opponents on similar scores, while avoiding repeat pairings and maintaining colour balance where possible.

4 rounds on Sunday
final matches after the qualification stage

Each qualification game is played with 25 minutes per player.

The final and the 3rd-place playoff are played with 30 minutes per player, giving the decisive games a little more room for calculation.

What to see in Poznań

VISITING POZNAŃ

Players arriving earlier or staying after the tournament can easily combine the event with a short visit to the city. Poznań is compact enough to explore without complicated planning, but still offers plenty of places worth seeing between travel, rest and tournament rounds. Recommended places include:

Old Market Square
The historic centre of Poznań and one of the city’s most recognizable places. The square is surrounded by colourful merchant houses, cafés and restaurants, with the Renaissance Town Hall at its heart. It is also where you can see the famous mechanical goats, one of Poznań’s best-known symbols — a small local tradition that has become a must-see for visitors.

Ostrów Tumski
One of the oldest and most historically important parts of Poznań. This island area is closely connected with the early history of Poland and is home to the Poznań Cathedral. It is a good choice for players who want a quieter walk and a sense of the city’s deeper historical background, away from the busiest parts of the centre.

St Martin’s croissants
A local specialty and one of the most recognizable symbols of Poznań. These rich pastries, traditionally filled with white poppy seeds, nuts and raisins, are strongly associated with the city. Trying one is an easy and very Poznań-style way to add a small local experience to the tournament weekend.

…and many, many more 🙂
